Health kits for Iraq - deadline March 23!
The American Friends Service Committee has been working with other international aid agencies on contingency plans for humanitarian aid in the event of full-out war in Iraq. Since summer 2002, this has resulted in the shipment of three 40-foot containers to Jordan, filled with health kits, school kits, and blankets that will be distributed by AFSC regional staff.
Locally, Rockbridge Response to War on Iraq is collecting health kits to support this effort. In order to provide the same comfort to all recipients and to meet the exacting licensing standards for shipments, please include all items listed and only those items.
4 bars of soap
1 plastic bottle of shampoo (13-24 oz. size; place in sealable plastic bag)
1 tube of toothpaste (8 oz. or larger)
4 adult-size toothbrushes (leave in packaging)
1 hairbrush
1 wide-tooth comb
1 fingernail clipper
1 box of adhesive bandages (minimum 40, assorted preferred)
Kits can be dropped off at the Lexington Presbyterian Church office, 120 S. Main St. during office hours. If possible, please include $5 for each kit to help pay shipping costs to Jordan (checks made out to Rockbridge Response). Please don't send cash or personal notes in the kits. Kathy Fox kathy.fox@rockbridge.net is coordinating collection of the kits; phone 540-463-7001.
Local volunteers will drive the collected kits to an AFSC warehouse in High Point, North Carolina during the week of March 24-30. Check the AFSC website for updates on delivery of the kits and other AFSC activities.
--------
Rockbridge Response to War on Iraq is a network of people in the Rockbridge County, Virginia area. Formed at a community meeting early in January 2003, we are active in many ways: letter writing, lobbying, vigils and demonstrations to prevent a war, as well as providing support to families of local servicemembers, humanitarian aid to Iraqi civilians, and facilitating discussion and study groups.
